When is the Dystonia Zoo Walk?

Where is the Dystonia Zoo Walk located?
Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium, 7370 Baker St, Pittsburgh, PA 15206. Click here for directions.  Registration tables are located outside the main entrace. Once checked in, you will be provided a zoo wrist band to enter the zoo.

Where is the event held in the zoo?
The primary items form our itinerary (the welcome message, introduction, snacks, t-shirt hand-outs, etc) in during the zoo event will be at The Garden Tent.

Where can I park?
Please use the main parking and enter through the main entrance. Parking is FREE.

Are there local hotel options?
The Zoo website has a link that makes some suggestions for area hotels. You can click HERE to see the listing.

What happens if it rains?
The event is rain or shine. We do have a pavilion rented (The Garden Tent) that will be available for any inclement weather. The PPG Aquarium is also a great place to walk around if there is a rain storm during our walk.

What time should I get to the Dystonia Zoo Walk?
Plan on arriving at 9:00 AM. The walk will begin promptly at 10:00 AM and you don’t want to miss it.

Is there a formal walking course?
No. Dystonia Zoo Walks do not have a formal walking course - in fact, you don’t have to walk at all. You can enjoy the festivities and then walk the zoo at your own leisure.

Can I show up the day of the Dystonia Zoo Walk without registering prior to?
Yes. Although we prefer pre-registration, we can get you registered the day-of. Please keep in mind t-shirts are not guaranteed if you register on-site. Pre-registration is always recommended.

Do I have to print the ticket I receive and bring it with me to the Dystonia Zoo Walk?
No, we will have your registration on file. You do NOT need to print out anything.

How do I register my team?
Click "Register Today" and follow the steps to registering yourself first, then right before the billing information under (Optional) Select your team - select "New Team".

Is there a limit to how many people can be on my team?
There is no limit, the more the merrier. Teams of 10 or more will receive a custom team t-shirt.

When do I have to register so that my team can receive custom t-shirts?
Make sure everyone on your team is registered by the deadline - by the end of the day on August 26th.

Who can register to participate in the Dystonia Zoo Walk?
Everyone can participate. Invite your families, friends and colleagues to join you and support everyone with Dystonia.

When do I receive my t-shirt?
All t-shirts will be available for pick-up the morning of the Dystonia Zoo Walk. T-shirts will be available at the pavilion - t-shirts will not be shipped.

What is the zoo policy on service animals?
In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, only Service Dogs are permitted on Zoo grounds. Due to the nature of some exhibits within Kids Kingdom, we are unable to allow service dogs in open-contact yards. 

What if there isn't a Dystonia Zoo Walk close to me?
We are working hard to add Dystonia Zoo Walks all across the country. In the meantime, you can support a Dystonia Zoo Walk by making a donation. Click here to make an online donation.

I want to mail in a donation. What do I need to do? 
If you would like to make a donation by check, please make the check out to DMRF with a check memo to include Pittsburgh Zoo/Team Name and mail to Attention: Zoo Walks, Dystonia Medical Research Foundation, One East Wacker Drive, Suite 1730, Chicago, IL 60601-1980

Is my donation to the Dystonia Zoo Walk tax-deductible?
Yes, Dystonia Medical Research Foundation is registered as a not-for-profit, 501(c) (3) organization under the Internal Revenue Code, therefore all donations are tax-deductible as allowable by law. The DMRF’s Tax ID Number is 95-3378526.

Can I volunteer?
Volunteer opportunities may be available. Please contact the DMRF at or 800-377-3978. All event volunteers need to be at the zoo no later than 8:00 AM.
